Parliament hinges are basically a butt hinge with an extended knuckle, which allows the door to swing clear of the surrounding door frame. If a door is required to open up to 180° it must clear the architrave around the door frame. In this situation you would use parliament hinges. The screw holes on these hinges are lined towards the edge of the hinge flap. When fitted, the knuckle projects beyond the edge of the door. The size of the projection will determine the opening angle achieved.
